Library Consultants’ Policy

1.0  POLICY STATEMENT

St Andrew’s Theological College (SATC) recognizes that library consultants play a significant role in contributing to the fulfillment of the SATC mission through their assistance in the development and management of the library.

2.0       DEFINITION

Library Consultant: A library consultant is a librarian who offers his/her time and professional skills to the SATC Library.

3.0       PURPOSE

The purpose of this policy is to establish guidelines for library consultants who provide their assistance to ensure the effective and efficient management of the SATC Library.

4.0       SCOPE

This policy is applicable to all library consultants in SATC.

5.0       RESPONSIBILITIES

The Principal

5.1       Shall ensure the provision of a safe working environment for the library consultants.

5.2       Shall provide overall supervision of the consultants and ensure adherence to this policy.

The Library Consultant

5.3       Shall provide professional advice on library matters.

5.4       Shall provide professional guidance and on the job training for the library assistant.

5.5       Shall supervise and assist in the performance of the technical aspects of the library services.

5.6       Shall oversee the operational aspects of the library.

5.7       Shall create/ review the administrative documents of the library.

 

6.0   REQUIREMENTS TO BE A LIBRARY CONSULTANT

  • A library consultant provides professional assistance based on their availability and areas of expertise.

 

  • A library consultant is required to provide a letter of application together with a curriculum vitae and copies of his/her certificates.

 

  • A library consultant offers ‘pro bono’ services unless remuneration is determined by the SATC Board of Directors.

 

  • Either party can withdraw service giving one working day notice in writing.

 

  • SATC reserves the right to select or reject applications from persons seeking to provide consultancy services at the SATC Library.

 

  • RIGHTS OF THE LIBRARY CONSULTANT

 

  • A library consultant has a right to be treated in a professional manner.

 

7.2  A library consultant has a right to be provided with a safe working   environment.

 

7.3  A library consultant has a right to politely decline a task.

 

8.0       GUIDELINES FOR CONSULTANTS

 Library consultants must conduct themselves according to established practices and policies and in a moral and ethical manner.

 

9.0       REVISIONS
Revisions may be made to this policy as necessary.
